Prayers when you are tired
For days when your body or your spirit is worn out. Each prayer is short enough to pray at the end of a long day, with a verse about rest and renewed strength.

A prayer for rest
Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.Matthew 11:28 (World English Bible)
Jesus, You invite the weary to come to You, and I am weary.
I lay down what I have been carrying: the to-do lists, the expectations, the worry. Give me real rest tonight, and wake me with a lighter heart.
In Your name, Amen.
Care for the weary
I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.Hebrews 13:5 (World English Bible)
God, I am tired and ask for comfort rather than another demand to do more. Help me receive a pause, a little rest, or practical assistance. Let Your gentleness loosen the pressure I put on myself. May I be cared for as well as useful.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Presence and rest together
He said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”Exodus 33:14 (World English Bible)
Lord, I am worn out, and I keep thinking I must earn rest before I can take it. You promise Your presence and rest together. Go with me through this day. Give me strength for what truly cannot wait, and permission to set down everything else. Let my tiredness meet Your gentleness, not my own criticism.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Come away and rest
He said to them, “You come apart into a deserted place, and rest awhile.” For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.Mark 6:31 (World English Bible)
Jesus, You once told Your weary friends to come away and rest awhile. I am that weary. Give me wisdom to step back before I break, and to plan rest as seriously as I plan my tasks. Show me a quiet place I can reach today, even briefly, and let it renew me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Rest is a gift
It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.Psalm 127:2 (World English Bible)
Lord, I am tired, and I wonder whether I have been striving beyond what You ask of me. Show me where anxious toil has replaced trust. Give me wisdom to stop when enough is done, and the faith to sleep while You keep watch. Teach me that rest is a gift You give, not a failure.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Your presence as my rest
He said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”Exodus 33:14 (World English Bible)
Faithful God, I am weary of deciding everything by myself. Go with me into the choices ahead, and let Your presence be my rest. Give me clarity about what needs doing now and permission to leave the rest for later. Help me move at a pace that leaves room for Your peace.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
When exhaustion makes me sharp
For he knows how we are made. He remembers that we are dust.Psalm 103:14 (World English Bible)
Father, I have been short with people because I had nothing left, and my exhaustion spilled onto them. Forgive my sharp words and my impatience. Help me apologize simply, without a long list of excuses. Show me where I need real rest, so that tiredness stops making my choices for me. Thank You for remembering that I am dust.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Tired of earning it back
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.Romans 8:1 (World English Bible)
Gracious God, I am tired of trying to win back Your favor through effort, apology and more effort. Remind me that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Forgive me, and then let me stop striving. Teach my weary heart that being forgiven is not a prize for working harder but a gift I may simply rest in.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
