Prayers of thanksgiving and gratitude

Not every prayer needs to ask for something. These are prayers to say thank you, for the big gifts and the small, quiet ones, each with a verse of praise.

A prayer of thanksgiving

In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.1 Thessalonians 5:18 (World English Bible)

Father, my heart is full today and I want to thank You.

Thank You for every good gift, the big ones and the small ones I almost missed. Keep me grateful, keep me humble, and let my life point back to You.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thank You for this day

This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!Psalm 118:24 (World English Bible)

Lord, thank You for this day and for the possibility of meeting You within it. Whether gratitude comes easily or takes an effort, I offer You what I can.

Open my eyes to something good that is here now. Help me receive it, remember it, and share its goodness with another person. Let my thanks become an act of love.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Grateful for mercy

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.1 John 1:9 (World English Bible)

Father, I am grateful and come asking for Your forgiveness. Thank You that receiving good things does not require hiding my faults. Help me confess with humility, repair what I can, and let gratitude for mercy become greater patience and care toward others.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let my thanks become care

In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.1 Thessalonians 5:18 (World English Bible)

God, I am grateful, and I want to tell You so. Thank You for the good I can name and the quiet gifts I may overlook. Help me receive them with humility. Let my thanks become practical generosity, thoughtful attention, and care for someone else.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thanks that keeps me steady

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.1 Corinthians 15:58 (World English Bible)

Faithful God, my heart is full of thanks, and I want it to make me steady. Keep me firm and unmoved by discouragement. Give me strength to keep showing up for the good You have given me to do. Remind me that nothing offered to You is wasted, and let that truth carry me through ordinary days.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thanks in ordinary things

Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him.Colossians 3:17 (World English Bible)

Lord Jesus, thank You. I want this grateful heart to shape everything I do and say today. Give me strength to bring thanks into ordinary tasks, careful conversations, and quiet commitments. Keep me from saving gratitude for special moments. Let every faithful action today carry Your name and my thanks.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thanks in ordinary choices

Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him.Colossians 3:17 (World English Bible)

Jesus, my gratitude is real, and I want it to shape everything I do, not just my prayers. Show me how to bring thanks into ordinary choices: how I speak, how I use my time, how I treat the people who serve me. Let every word and action be done in Your name, with thanks to the Father.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thank You for not keeping score

As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.Psalm 103:12 (World English Bible)

Father, I am so grateful that You do not keep a tally of my wrongs. As far as the east is from the west, You have removed them. Here are the ones from this week; I hand them over freely and gladly. Thank You for a mercy wide enough to make honesty feel safe, and let me be as generous with others as You are with me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
