Prayers for anger
Anger is a real emotion, and the Psalms are full of it. These prayers help you bring it honestly to God and ask for patience, wisdom and a calmer heart.
A prayer when I am angry
Be angry, and don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath.Ephesians 4:26 (World English Bible)
Lord, I am angry, and You already know it. I don’t want this anger to control my words or my actions.
Cool my heart. Show me what is true and what is just my hurt speaking. Give me the right words, or the wisdom to be silent, and lead me towards peace.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A calm and truthful heart
Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.John 14:27 (World English Bible)
Jesus, bring calm to the anger I am carrying. Do not let peace become an excuse to ignore what needs attention. Help me recognize what is fair, release the urge to lash out, and choose a response that protects dignity.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Using anger wisely
But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.Isaiah 40:31 (World English Bible)
Father, help me use the energy of anger with wisdom. Strengthen my ability to pause and choose my actions. Show me a constructive step that honors what matters. Give me courage to seek change without giving control of my character to this feeling.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A wise response to anger
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.James 1:5 (World English Bible)
Lord, I bring my anger to You and ask for direction. Help me distinguish a useful action from a reaction I may regret. Give me wisdom about boundaries, timing, and words. Lead me toward a response that honors dignity and addresses what matters.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Let mercy shape my anger
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.1 John 1:9 (World English Bible)
Lord, forgive what I need to confess in this angry moment. Help me see where my words or actions need to change. Do not let shame or blame decide my next step. Teach me to receive mercy and act with firmness, fairness, and care.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Tenderness without denying anger
I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.Hebrews 13:5 (World English Bible)
Father, comfort me while I feel angry. Help me be honest without feeding the feeling with more harshness. Let Your tenderness steady me enough to hear what I need. Guide me toward support, a useful boundary, or a calmer conversation.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Anger that seeks what is right
He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?Micah 6:8 (World English Bible)
Faithful God, I am angry about something that feels wrong, and I want to respond in a way that pleases You. Show me what justice asks, what mercy allows, and what humility requires. Help me act for what is right without becoming cruel. Keep me walking humbly with You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Angry without sinning
“Be angry, and don’t sin.” Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath.Ephesians 4:26 (World English Bible)
Lord, I am angry, and I will not dress it up as something holier. You allow me to be angry without sinning, so help me find that line. Forgive the times my anger has already crossed it, in words or in silences meant to wound. Keep the fire honest and aimed at what is wrong, not at the people around me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
