Prayers for anxiety
When worry won’t settle, a few honest words to God can help you breathe again. Each prayer below comes with a Bible verse about God’s care, so you can pray it slowly as it is, or use it as a start for your own words.

When worried thoughts multiply
In the multitude of my thoughts within me, your comforts delight my soul.Psalm 94:19 (World English Bible)
God, my worried thoughts keep multiplying faster than I can answer them. I am not asking You to silence every one at once. I am asking for strength in the middle of them: a steadier breath, a clearer head, a heart that can rest in Your comfort while the noise settles. Let Your nearness be stronger than my fear.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Hearing You above the worry
And when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way. Walk in it.”Isaiah 30:21 (World English Bible)
Holy Spirit, my mind is crowded with worried voices, and I struggle to hear Yours among them. Teach me the difference between a warning worth heeding and a fear that only repeats itself. Slow my hurried choices. Let me decide from a quiet place, and give me the patience to wait until the noise settles.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Afraid I have gone too far
For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive; abundant in loving kindness to all those who call on you.Psalm 86:5 (World English Bible)
Lord, I am anxious that I have gone too far this time, that Your patience with me has finally worn thin. Steady me with the truth of who You are: good, ready to forgive, rich in kindness toward anyone who calls on You. So I am calling. Forgive me, and loosen this fear that grips me tighter than my regret ever could.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Fear has not pushed me away
When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.Psalm 56:3 (World English Bible)
Faithful God, fear is sitting close to me right now. I thank You that I can bring it here instead of carrying it alone. Thank You that being afraid does not move me out of Your reach. When the anxiety rises again, turn my thanks into trust, and let me lean my whole weight on You for this hour.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Peace about what comes next
Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.John 14:27 (World English Bible)
Father, I place the future in Your hands. Help me plan with care while staying present to the life I have today. Give me peace about what I cannot yet know. Keep me attentive to the good I can do in this moment.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Gratitude within anxiety
In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.1 Thessalonians 5:18 (World English Bible)
Father, I feel anxious and still want to give thanks. Help me recognize one good thing without pretending that worry is gone. Thank You for every person, resource, or small kindness that supports me. Let gratitude widen my attention beyond what I fear.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Rejoice, and do not worry
Rejoice in the Lord always! Again I will say, “Rejoice!” Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things. The things which you learned, received, heard, and saw in me: do these things, and the God of peace will be with you.Philippians 4:4–9 (World English Bible)
Lord, You are near. That is where this passage starts, and it is where I want to start too. Before I list my worries, I want to rejoice in You, because You are good and You are close.
I am anxious about some things, and You already know which ones. So instead of rehearsing them in my head, I bring them to You in prayer, with thanksgiving. Thank You for what You have already given, for the people You have placed around me, and for the mercies of this week.
Let Your peace, which goes beyond my understanding, stand guard over my heart and my mind. I don’t need to understand everything to be kept by You.
Then turn my thoughts toward what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and worthy of praise. There is more of that around me than I notice. Help me practice what I have learned from You, so that my joy is not a mood but a settled trust in the God of peace.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
An unhurried heart
Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.Matthew 11:28 (World English Bible)
Jesus, I pause with You before taking another step. Help me stop measuring this moment by everything that still needs doing.
Teach me to move at the pace of love, to listen before responding, and to carry Your peace into the choices ahead. Let this small pause make room for Your presence.
In Your name, Amen.
